The inspectors were of opinion that the work done reflected credit on the head-teachers and trainers alike. OVERSEER'S REPORT. •

Mr Moore reported as follower— Bird—The shelter shed is being erected.

Tdko.—The committee agreed to using the iron from the baths and the shelter shed was being put up.

Mahoe.-I propose to erect new outoffices, and concrete one of the shelter shed floors, the committee agreeing to find material. Stratford, Infants—l submit plans dealing wiih proposed alterations to this school. This includes new porches, extension of one room, and ;a dividing partition across another room about seven feet.

FLOOR SPACE. The Auckland Education Board asked the Board's support to a resolution asking the Department to recognise the standard of 12 square feet per unit of average attendance. The letter pointed out that Dr. Shaw, a well-known authority, slated that authorities should not be satisfied with anything less than 1G feet of superficial area, so- that the estimate of 12ft could not he considered excessive.

The Board resloved to support the resolution.

SCHOOL BOOKS

Mrs Bowling, head-mistress of the West End School, asked to be advised as to what reading book was to be used next year, so tbat booksellers might have them ready for the beginning of the year. The committee appointed by bhe Board to discuss this matter is holding the matter over pending the appointment of .the new Board. THE MANGOREI SCHOOLS. Mr F. Mackay, pursuant to notice, moved that the resolution passed on April 24th regarding the closing of Lower Mangorei and Kent Road schools and the erection of a new school near the junction of the Mangorei and Waiwakaiho rivers he rescinded. A letter was read from Mr White, on the subject.

Mr Mackay doubted whe'her the proposed new school woidd be of a higher grade than Kent Eoad. Though old, the buildings at Mangorei and Kent Road were in good condition and would be serviceable for several year's. He considered .that in view of the need for cutting down expenditure, it would be advisable to defer any alteration until the schools, required re-building. Mr G. A. Adlam seconded. Mr Morton skid the committee had brought down its recommendation] from the point of view of economy and J efficiency, and in the best interests of; the Board and of education. He dis~, agreed that the site was damp. The chairman also disagreed that th'e ; site "was a damp one. He pointed out that no matter what advantages might be derived from one central school it would be difficult to get people close to either school to agree to their school being closed. Rev. A. B. Chappell considered that as there was a conflict of opinion as to healthiness of the site, and it was uncertain whetheff&e'grade would be raised, it would be advisable to rescind the resolution with the object of allowing the* now board to deal with it.

After further discussion, the motion was carried.
