The bread reserve upon which the country is now living, can only be made possible by economy of grain under the War Department. If the Central Purchase Company had been unsuccessful iu regard to imports of grain, we would have been seriously embarrassed. Much depends upon the result of the harvest as to whether the present rations can he continued. The cold weather during May has done dam- 1 - age, but the crops promise good yields if the harvest weather is good. Dr. Batocki considers that communal feeding in large towns is desirable.
