FORMATION OF COALING CORPS *
(Received 10.10 a.in.) Melbourne, June 27. The coaling crops commences operations on July 1. An agreement provides that under no circumstances shall work cease or a strike extend to the battalion while engaged on a naval vessel, and it gives the Navy Department first call on labor. A number of union officials have been given honorary ranks in the naval reserve. TOTAL CASUALTIES 55,033. (Received 9.20 a.m.) Sydney, June 27. The total Australian casualties are: Dead ... The Federal statistician reports that there are 452,(518 lit men in the Commonwealth between the ages of 18 and 44 who have not enlisted, or, il enlisted, have not yet gone to camp. A last, chance will ho given those who IV.iled to return the census card; if this chance be neglected, prosecutions will follow.

It is stated in Ministerial cTrcles that while in England Mr Hughes completed arrangements for the purchase )f a number of ships witli which to institute a Commonwealth-owned steamship line for tin- transport of the present wheat harvest.
