Not finding the child, the parents informed Constable Townshend, at Elthiim, and search parties from Mangatoki and Kaponga wore organised, the country in the vicinity of where the child was last seen was thoroughly searched, hut there was no sign of the child. Two deep water dams were drained in the morning, but failed to reveal the ini-jS-iug child. Much to the relief of all concerned the child was found at nine o’clopk by Mr R. Hcgnr, farmer, on the Hastings Rood, who it. in a bush on one of his sections., .The, place whore it was found was two miles awav from the place where 'its,.had strayed. The child was in a very weak condition find everything was dope to revive it, and it is now progressing as well ns could be expected. It had a wonderful escape from death, for it had been out in the open all night in cold stormy weather, without either boots or hat. It- had gone through a farm hedge and across country, and fortunately it had been guided >y Providence away from the water nolcs. A word of praise is due to the people of Mangatoki . and Kaponga lor the way in which they organised parties 'and assisted in the search of the miss- ' ing little one.
