A Press Association- telegram from Christchurch states that Edward Fowler, aged 49, a motor mechanic employed at the Farmers' Co-op. garage, was found unconscious at the bottom of the pit. He had evidently fallen and struck his head. He died in the hospital to-day. Fowler was well known in the early,, days of cycling in connection with the management of the Pioneer Club. '

The Minstrels have been rehearsing assiduously for the past two months, ahd will present an entertainment that is said, to he ; quite capable of taking its place in any of the New Zealand vaudeville houses. The songs are all quite hew, some of them. in fact, will be suiigyJor t,he firs- time in New Zealand, whilst the jokes and by-play of the end men will also open up fresh ground. /
