A conference is to be held between Federal Iviiiiistry of the Navy and the shipping companies with a view to arranging control of all shipping between Australian ports by the Naval Department. The companies will retain the management of various lines and the admiralty will dictate the rates ol freight, and direct the tonnage into tinchannels of greatest, value to the Commonwealth. The action is the outcome of the difficulty experienced by the State Governments in securing delivery of coal for the railways.
