MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP. HANDSOME OFFER FROM COLONEL RHODES. Pee nUEBB ASSOCIATION. "Wellington, June 14. In the House of Representatives tonight, Hon. J. Allen read a letter from Colonel the Hon. R. Heaton Rhodes, in which he stated that he did not desire to accept the payment to which he was entitled for expenses while visiting Egypt, Gallipoli. and Malta, but he expressed the wish that the Government should allocate the £SOO due to him as a nucleus for a fund for a scholarship, to be called "The Kitchener Memorial Scholarship." If the Government agreed to this, he (Colonel Rhodes), was prepared to subsidise the amount by another £SOO, making the fund on which the scholarship would bo founded £IOOO. Hon. Jas. Allen said that on behalf of the Government he had agreed to accept the generous offer of Colonel Rhodes.
