FORE THE COURT.
committed FOR TRIAL. Per Press Association. Wanganui, May 30. As a sequel to the recent death of the young woman, Edna Beatrice Hogg, in the Wanganui hospital, Richard Patrick Pollard, sergeant-major in the Defence forces at Hawera, • whs charged at the Magistrate’s Coui't today, with illegally using an instrument with intent to procure miscarriage. Dr. Earle, honorary surgeon at the Wanganui hospital, said that the woman’s death was due to blood poisoning. The principal witness for the police was Frederic Timms, a typewriter expert. who stated that a letter purporting to lie sent by accused to deceased was typed on a Royal Barlock typewriter in the Defence office at Hawera. He said that the machine had imperfections, and certain letters were repeated consistently in correspondence which was typed on tue machine. Accused oleaded not guilty, and was committed for trial.
