WORK OF THE RUSS3ANS. TURKISH COMMUNICATIONS IMPERILLED. New York, May 18, A message from Petrograd says that Grand Duke Nicholas captured 37,000 Turkish prisoners and vast supplies of munitions, and this may mean that .Mosul.has already fallen. The Russians are now bringing fresh powerful pressure to bear on the rear or the Turkish armies. A serious ob-
stacle is believed to exist in the ancient fortified city of Je'zireh-ibn-Omar (85 miles west of Mosul), but it is not thought that the fortifications will long delay the Czar's troops, who have already broken the backbone of the Turkish communications between Diarbekr and Mosul. An Athens message states that Enver Pasha has again appealed to the Kaiser for more men and munitions to block the Russian advance to Bagdad. According to a Constantinople despatch, ' Enver Pasha . is reported to have sent a warning that German hopes of a commercial conquest in Mesopotamia are for ever crushed if the Allies take Bagdad.
