The T,urks are alarmed at the Russian advance, and great efforts are being made to stem it before Erzingan. Many lines of trenches were cut, but the Turks chiefly relied on their 4.7 and 7-inch guns. The transit of artillery was difficult, but thousands of of Christians were forced to repair the Sivas-Erzingan road and build parallel roads. Many German officers were present with a" stiffening of German troops. .' :' ■ - Defensive works at Diarbekir are being feverishly pushed on, as the capture of the headwaters of the Tigris will cut off supplies from Bagdad. TURKS FIGHT FURIOUSLY AT ERZINGAN. Petrograd, May 15. A communique says: A very large Turkish, force at'Erzigan, in a furious battle, drove back our advanced posts,, but their extremely severe losses forbade them to follow up their success.
