LONDON WOOL SALES. [Unitbd Pkwbs Amooiatiokt.] London, May 5. Wool.—Solid.—For the Homo market 86,000 bales were sold; for the Continent, 6000; and 7000 bales were held. The market closed very strong. Compared with the March closing choicest Merinos advanced five, per cent., medium 10, faulty 10 to 15. Russian buyers are still taking good sorts and otherwise all merinos have been taken by some trades. Fine crossbreds advanced id, coarse Id, and medium Id. Scoured wools advanced fully 5 per cent., slipes Id, and all lambs 7J per cent. Xew Zealand prices :—Craigmore, top, iOd, average 17jd; Burling, 19d and 18fd; Pa'partu, 17}d and 17.|d. N.Z. On Thursday, April 27th, we held our usual monthly sale in our Kohuravahi yards, when we had a good yarding of both cattle and sheep. The demand was good and we sold practically all the yarding. On Friday, -April 2?th, we held, our usual sale in our v Te Wera yards, when we had a fa. if yarding.of. sheep, and rattle. On Tuesday, May 2nd, we held our usual fortnightly sale in our Stratford yards, when we had a heavy yarding, chiefly of good, cows, which sold very freely. Light and small cows £2 15s to £3 15s, store cows (light) £4 10s to £5 7s 6d, forward cows £7 to £8 Is, fat cows £8 15s to £0 10s, 2 year in-calf heifers £4 os to £5 2s 6d, 2J year in calf heifers £6 Is to £6 10s, weaner heifers 25s to 41s, mixed weaners 32s to 375, Holstein weaner heifers (good) 47s 6d f weaner steers 52s 6d to ."59s (kl. bulls (light) £5 to £6 17s (id, 2* year empty heifers £5 2s 6d to £5 95,. lambs 12s lOd and 13s sd, f.m. ewes lis and 15s lOd. Our next Stratford sale will be held on Tuesday. May 16th. PRIVATE SALES.

Since our last report We have sold several lines in the paddock. Lambs are hardening and there is good inquiry for good lambs. F.m. ewes 19s to 21s, fat empty heifers £6 12s 64, forward cows £7 to £7 ]ss, \yeaner heifers 32s to 365, 2J year in calf heifers £6 6s to £7 15s, 2 year in calf> heifers £5 to £5 6s 6d, 20 month steers £1 10s to £4 17s and £5 2s 6d, lambs 13s lOd to 16s 3d, 2 tooth ewes 255. We held our usual monthly wool, skin and hide sale on Tuesday, 2nd May. We had a fair catalogue of 119bales and bags of wool, usual quantity of sheepskins, bides, etc. The attendance was good, and competition somewhat keener than at last sale. The wool was for the most part seedy and reserves very high, so that most ship-

ping lines were passed in. The following prices v,ere obtained : Wool.—Fleece" in sacks 11-J-d to llijd, lambs 9}d to IO.UI, crutchings 7k! to IBd, pieces 5d to 6jd dead wool 9d to liod. j Wool in bales.—Fleece (no seed) Is to Is lid, seedy fleece 7Jd to 10|d, lambs Is to Is Id, seedy lambs 5d to Bd, pieces 7|,d, crutchings 8d to B|-d.
