HAWKE'S BAY MEETING. (Notes by Cicero.) Favored with good fields, the HawIre’s Bay Jockey Club should have a most successful autumn meeting. The first dav’s racing (to-morrow), will see ilie richly endowed Cup it - 700) run, whilst on Saturday the Stakes ( CTs’S) winch appears to bo at the mercy at Desert Gold, will be decided. Gladful (Ormond’s) and Sieight-of-Hand, (a promising jumper) may divide favoritism in the Longlands Hurdles. In the Maiden, Aurora (if started), [or Lady Kilworth may catch the ijudge’s eye. The Nursery Handicap should give Tinkler a chance of improving on his Ellorslio position. The acceptances for the Porangahan Handicap is deoidely disappointing, but Centre and Grecnstreet should make the event interesting.
Tiie Cup field is a splendid one, both in class and numbers. Quite half the acceptors appear to, have excellent chances. Balboa, who heads the handicap. ran a great race in the Great Autumn at Riccarton, when carrying two pounds less weight. - Eligible, although unsuccessful at Riccarton, put np a good performance in the Challenge Stakes, and in the writer’s opinion is too brilliant for the top weight over a twelve furlong course. Indigo appears to have lost all form, but Multiply is galloping just as well at present as at any time in his lengthy career. Emperador is a good handicap horse, but may find a mile and a-half in good company beyond him. Orleans van two splendid races at Feildiug, and Was decidedly unlucky in not winning the double. Square Deal’s form at Feildiug was only fair, but Master Lupin did Both these , should, however, again be beaten by Orleans. Of the horses lower in the handicap, Lady Louisa should do best. Eligible, Orleans and Rfillroa are.. a good trio. Toe-majority of the Karamu Hurdle field are merely rating into form, and Aruako or Hprykia may be forward enough for tli# moderates opposing them.
The hacks engaged in the Poukawa Handicap arc not a brilliant lot, and possibly Aurore, who does not stay at present i may last long enough io make the event exciting. The first clay’s racing will close with the Autumn Handicap, in which event Ladogcnr and Mandoline are nicely handicapped. j( aww-yfii-.wi
