HUIROA.

(From our own Correspondent). The recently-hold Belgian bazaar, for which preparations hail been going on for sdme considerable time, proved a groat success financially, despite ad-1 verse circumstances. We were very unfortunate in striking a day on which | ..patriotic functions were being held in ' (other places, and this presented many I jwho would otherwise hare been with us from being present, but r.hert '.'• [some consolation in the fact that the. [result attained is all the more creditjable, the amount raised being more !the result of locaj effort, and easily a j record one lor the district.

The Ladies' Sewing Guild set out, in the first place to raise a three figure amount, and later, believing m aiming high £2OO was tfite goal decided on. . The result as shown below was A net sum of well over £'lso, the secretary and treasurer of the Guild having already forwarded £152 10s through the Belgian Consul, whose acknowledgment is appended. The ladies are to be congratulated on the fine display of wares with which the various stalls were laden, the best compliment to their quality being the fact that nl'inosfc everything was sold during be afternoon and evening. The various stall-holders also are to be complimented on the energy and enthusiasm displayed, : and the resultant "brisk, bright and busy" air that prevailed the proceedings. Among such an energetic band of workers.it would bo invidious to specially mention any in |'.u'tieular, but a word of appreciation is due to the secretary of the Guild (Mrs W. Martin) on whose shoulders fell a heavy share of work and responsibility, and to the president and treasurer (.Mrs A. J. Ferrott) for the efiiciei.t manner in which their duties were carried out.
