' The excellence of Mr Fred Foley’s Pictures was remarked on by the Minister for Defence last night.
The cake raffled at the Carnival yesterday was won by Mr A. M. Spilinan and the doll’s house by Mis Walter Smith.
Speaking at Town Hall last evening, the Mayor (Mr J. W. Boon) said that owing to a number of butts of books not being returned the drawing of the art union for the section which should have take place in the Hall that evening had to be postponed.
The Hon. Secretary of the Soldiers Day Committee (Mr R. Masters) experienced a very busy time to-day counting the money handed in yesterday by the various stab holders ar.'S side show managers. As show ing what an enormous task was faced by Mr Masters, it may be stated that the hag containing the silver alone weighed lewt 281bs.
Preparations are well in hand for the Tinted Anzac Memorial Service in the Town Hall at 8 o’clock this evening. Mr Foley has kindly granted the use of the Flail at a modest figure. Circulars containing the order of ‘service and ’the hymns to be used, are to be distributed. The united choirs will take their places at the front of the hall. Such a worthy object should bring together a good audience.

The boys*, he said, were of fine physique and tho discipline was beyond roprbach. As he had said in his speech to the general public, the boys were playing a prominent part, by do+ ing tbeir duty to the Empire. Ho hoped they would continue: to show such a spirit.
'Hie Minister of Defence (t'lie Hon. J. Allen) accompanied by his private secretary (Mi'’! Dixon) left for New Plymouth by motor car early this morning. On arrival at Egmont ullage the Minister was met by the Mayor who conveyed him to the Mountain House for breakfast. The party arrived in New Plymouth at 10 o’clock and after visiting the smelting works at Moturoa and' at Af r Griffith’s toquest, the Bonithon 'Company's born wore met by the Recruiting i Committee. After attending various official gritherings. the Minister * deaves iby steamer for' Auckland at s)i o’clock.

This evening, the Rev, J. Put; tison conducts a memorial service in tlic Town Hall.
