i The Allied warships landed men and blockaded Suda Bay, and in the Gulf of Canea, and demanded the surrender of the German Consul, which was refused, and they seized the captain of an Austrian.vessel. .}•■'. 1 Landings were effected at Gjhalc-is, in the island of Euboea, in se.archrof suspected petrol bases. Greece has protested. j The British landed sailors at Patras and arrested two Germans. Fort Petalioi, which is outside the Piraeus waters, fired blank shot at two British merchantmen which were carrying naval men and were searching the . coast line.

The paper "Estia," says that two British cruisers filled with troops arrived at Suda. and officers landed and visited the Consul at Canea. Ten more Allied warships were sighted off Canea. The paper adds that the Allies are preparing to land troops. Other reports from Canea state that a personage attached to the British Consular Service visited the German Consul, pretended to be a Germanophile, and offered to revictual the German submarines. The German Consul (perceived the ruse and denounced the visitor to the Greek authorities, who imprisoned him. Five Allied warships arrived at Canea on Sunday and demanded his release, also the surrender of the German .Consul. The Prefect, after communicating with the Government, refused, and the Allied stjuadron initiated a blockade.
