The steamer Tndrabarah, which left Wellington on February t, reached London last week. Work at the State sawmill has been resumed on conditions favorable to the men (states a Press Association telegram from Greymouth). To meet the requirements of the Agricultural Department the dates of the South Taranaki Winter Show have been altered to July 4, o. 6, 7 f aud 8. The Stratford Borough Council is fit receipt of a letter from the Electrical Supply Company stating that they have agreed to the modified legal terms as carried at last Council meeting, so that the arbitrators will now meet and submit the cost of the undertaking for the Council’s approval. A new principle in regard to season tickets which has been adopted by the Railway Department will be brought into effect next' The currency of all season tickets issued after next Friday will commence on the first day, and will expire on the last day of a calendar month. All quarterly school season tickets will expire on the last day of June, September, December, or March. In the past, season tickets have been issued for the particular period from the date of application, and the new system is designed to simplify book-keeping, and to facilitate the official supervision of the use of such tickets, of which between 15,000 and 20,000 are issued in the Auckland suburban area every year. A similar regulation applies to season tickets for distances up to 100 miles on the New South Wales system.

The management of HD Majesty’s Theatre has just completed arrangements for the screening ot the John-son-Willard fight film, depicting sixteen rounds of this famous contest, when the “white A.-pA' v. on decisively. The well-known advance, Mr Billy Low, is ahead of the picture, and he may he expected in Stratford shortly to arrange for the picture being shown c.i Aiesdav Aoril 11.

The executive committee in connection with the Soldiers’ Day Fete in Stratford on Easter Monday met last evening, when the procession and side-show committees transacted routine business. It has been decided to hold a Boxing Competition, and the side-show committee will be glad of assistance from any boxing enthusiasts who will give their help towards running this portion of the day’s programme. The Y/.C.T.TJ. at Wanganui considered the social evil and diseases resulting therefrom. The union was strongly against compulsory notification and compulsory detention of persons suffering from such disease, because, firstly, at the Royal Commission on venereal disease, appointed by the British House of Commons, all expert medical evidence was against compulsory detention; and secondly, because wherever C.D. Acts had been in force they had been declared by exerts, both in England and on the Continent, to have resulted in an increase of the disease; third, because, “as a society of women, we protest against the person and honour of women lieing placed in the hands of the police.” The union urged the Government to establish free clinics for the treatment of people suffering from venereal disease who voluntarily present themselves for treatment.
