TARANAKI WOOL, SKIN, HIDE AND TALLOW SALES NEWTON KIX GIS REPORT. ■ On Tuesday, February Bth, at my four-weekly sale I catalogued 179 bales and 203 sacks of woo/. 1500 sheepskins, 9 .-asks, and 4? litis of tallow, 380 hides -.nd 705 calfskins. There was the usual attendance of buyers. In sympathy with other markets, wool advanced id per lb., with the exception of seedy lambs, which are still hard to quit. Top price was realised for four bales of fleece on account of Mr E. G!. Morgan. This brought lod and his lambs 14d. The wool generally showed seed, and the bulk was back country lots, which wore much better grown than for the corresponding sale last year. Sheepskins again advanced, woolly Jd, lambs lid, salted pelts Is to Is 3d each. Owing to the embargo on hides, these were |d to Id per lb. easier, although choice heavy cow sold up to lOd. ■ ' I quote:— Wool.—-Fleece, crossbred lid to lod, dingy and coarse 13d to 13:,'d, seedy lOd to 13d, lambs 13d to lid, short and seedy lOd to 12J-d, badly seedy to Bd, crutcliings 8d to 9kl. Sheepskins.—Woolly 12d, butcher lambs Hd to 12d, pelts 6ki to 7j}d, farmers' woolly lOkl to 12d, lambs (small) 9d, damaged woolly lOd, dead and damaged 7d to 9|d, pelts lj-d to skl, damaged pelts lkl, damp (heavy) 12s Od to 14s 6d, damaged 9s. Salted pelts 3s 8d to 4s 6d, small or inferior Is 10d to 2s lid, lambs (heavy) 4s 4d to 5s 3d, light 3s Id. Tallow.—ln casks. 26s to 275. In tins 15s to 21s 6d. Hides.—Cow (heavy) B|d to lOd, medium B£d to 9fd, light 8d to B£d, cut B£d, farmers' cow 6|d to Bkl, cut or slippy 4kl to 6d, dry 6£d, horse 6s 9d to 7s 6d, slippy stags 6|d. Calfskins.—Firsts 9fd, seconds 7Jd to Bijd, light 7 id, cut s|d to 6fd, slippy skl to 6Jd, cut and slippy 3d, dry Is each, goatskins 9d each. Bones, £5 per ton. Horsehair, Is 3d per lb.
