UNWILUNC TO SERVE, NAPLES ON MEN CONFIDENTIAL. Per Press AssonrATtON. Wellington, February 8. Replying to a suggestion of the Grey mouth Borough that the names of the 34,000 unwilling men in the National Register should be published, the Hon. G. W. Russell has written that it was expressly stated that information given in the- Regk|e.p would he regarded as confidential and under the circumstances the Government could not consider the .publication of names. A further suggestion from the Council that the time had arrived for conscription was a matter of policy for the Government as a body to decide.

RESPONSE IN THE DOMINION. Wellington February 8. The Defence Department’s statement of recruiting percentages for the week ended February sth, gives the following figures for the four military districts (the previous week’s percentages and the quota on the -National Register are shown for the purposes of comparison):— Week ended February s.—Auckland 25.50, Wellington 42.63, Canterbury 19.68. Otago 12.19. Week ended January 29.—Auckland 25.37, Wellington 44.19, Canterbury 18.92. Otago 11.52. Quota on National Register.— Auckland 27.00, Wellington 33.80, Canterbury 23.20, Otago 16.00, AUCTIONEERS’ GIFT SALE. The following donations have to be acknowledged:—Master Joe Hignett one calf; A. Boyd, 10s; J. Vickers, two heifers: W. B. Smith, £3 10s; G. F. Scott £‘>.
