The Poverty Bay farmers’ freezing works were opened at Kaileratahi, one thousand townspeople journeying to the function. The foundation stone was laid on August 20, and it is claimed that the erection of the works within six months is a Dominion record. Mr Lysnar chairman of directors, mentioned to the credit of the imperial authorities at Home that one of the finest actions of the company was to inform the authorities of the establishment of the works and of its importance in relation to maintaining the food supplies, and the authorities readily consented to place the material and plant in the same category as war material. This the Company obtained its despatch, whilst the plant for other works which had been started twelve months before had reached the docks at Home and been commandeered.
