.. A GIRL’S STRATEGY. TAKES TWENTY GERMAN PRISONERS. [Unitho Pkiba Association.] (Received 11.10 a.m.) Petrograd January 28. A young girl aged 17 has been awarded the St. George’s Cross under the following circumstances: Twenty Gormans marched up to her father’s farm in Courland and the lieutenant in charge threatened that she would be violated and the farm burnt unless she produced wine. The girl recalled the fact that two barrels of old liqueur were in the cellar, and before she brought up the wine, she dropped in a powder made from bluebells, which brings on drowsiness. The barrels were soon emptied, the Germans rolling on the floor one after another. The girl then filled the howl and gave it to the sentries, saying: “It is the lieutenant’s order.” Then returning she disarmed the Germans, hiding their weapons in the cellar, while her father roped the limbs of the insensible men. Finally the girl traversed the swamps and found a Siberian outpost. A few pails of ice-cold water woke up the German swine, who were horrified to find themselves prisoners.
