The High Commissioner reports; London, January 24 (8..‘)5 p.m.)
West of Arras on the road to Lons, the enemy, after mining and bombardment, attacked and were able to penetrate over several hundred metres ol our first line of trenches as far as the support trenches; our counter-at-tack left the enemy occupying two hundred metres of the advance trenches. , Twenty of our aeroplanes bombaritSft the stations at Metz, and thirty bombs were dropped. All hut one machine returned safely.
