ACCIDENT TO A STEAMER.

Wanganui, January 22

A peculiar accident happened to the John, which arrived from Wellington this morning. When berthing at the town wharf Qip vessel was carried hy the strong tide against the bridge broadside, and her deckhouse caught under the decking of the bridge and was considerably damaged and a lifeboat on tbe port side and its davits were smashed. The damage may be £IOO.
