SEVERING THE COMMUNICATIONS. SENSATION IN CREEK CIRCLES. ALLIED OPERATIONS ROUND SALONIKA. XUnITMB PRES* -AaBOOJAXIOJf.] (Received 12.45 p.m.) London, January 16. Reuter’s Salonika correspondent states that the destine! ** u of the railway bridges at Demirhissam caused a sensation in Greek circles, as it almost cuts off communication with Eastern M acedonia. The population of Seres and the Greek troops in that region are largely dependant upon Salonika for supplies, and they are now faced with the problem of revictualling and may be compelled to disband. Jt is reported that all the bridges and viaducts on the Demirhissar line beyond Kilinder have been blown up, and the telephones and telegraphs severed. While ; many Greeks are resentful, the general opinion appeals to be that the Allies have the best reasons for measures of precaution.
