AMUSEMENTS.

SALVATION ARMY SILVER BAND.

The Town Hall was comfortably filled last evening, when a patriotic recital in aid of the Serbian Relief Fund was given by the Salvation Army Silver Band from Auckland, which ranks with the best bands in the Dominion. 1 The band, under the baton of Bandj master Deighton, played «■ number of I .selections, giving a careful interpretation of the composer's work. It was good in attack and release, and in light and shade, and generally, the whole tone was distinctly creditable. By special request, the Band rendered "Nearer My God to Thee." Several instrumental solos were given, one of the best being the trombone solo. "The Death of Nelson,", by Bandsman Clarke. .The programme was as follows:—March, "Allies"; vocal" solo, "My Father God is at the Helm," Bandsman Gladding; selection, "American Melodies"; vocal duet, "Mock Court,": Bandsmen Nicholson and Munro; trombone solo, "Death of Nolfon," Bandsman : Clarke: double bass solo, Bandsman Chapman; vocal item, "The Army's Flag," Bandsman Ogilvie; march, "Canada"; vocal item, " Fear Thou Not," Bandsman Bicknell; selection, "Ora Pro Nobis," march, "Canterra" ; grand selection, Beethoven; cornet and euphonium solo, "Kentucky Home"; vocal quartette, "Peter and .the Whale," Bandmaster Deighton, Bandsmen Deighton, Gladding and Clarke; selection "Farewell." The Mayor. (Mr J. W. Boon), thanked the Baud for assisting so worthy a cau§e in such a noble manner, and also for the excellent entertainment provided. • Brigadier Carmichael .(Auckland), who acted as chairman, thanked .the Mayor for his words, and the audience for the vote of thanks which was passed, The total amount derived from the performance was about £45, and after deducting expenses, Adjutant Cook handed £39 14s to Brigadier Carmichael for the Army's Belief Fund.
