LOCAL AND GENERAL.
Mr Newton “King, agent for the Shaw, Savill, amt Albion Co., Ltd., has received advice that the demand •for accommodation l,y the 11.M.5. Gorinthic, to sail on January 20th, is satisfactory in all classes, and in the third class, owing to the withdrawal of cheaper rate passenger steamers from Australia to England, very considerable business is coming through Australian agents.
The rainfall recorded at “Riversdale,” Inglewood, for the month of December, was 4.32 inches. Rain fell on thirteen days as follows; —4th, .06 inch; 7th, 1.03; Bth, .03; 16th, .38; 17th, .65: 18th, .05; 19th, .08; 21th, .01; 23rd, .34; 24th, .61; 25th, .02; 26th, 1.00; 28th, .06. The rainfall registered for the different months was as follows, the number of days on which rain fell being given iu v parentheses :—January, 6.62 inch (12); February, 3.54 in. (9); March, 7.44iu. (16); April, 5.45 in. (9); May, 9.90iu. (9); June, 11.26 in. (21); July, 20J)3in. (14); August, 4.GOin. (12); September, 7.88 in. (21); October, 7.99 in. (24); November, 14.GOin. (22)-; December, 4.32 in. (13). Total 103.63 inches (182). The heaviest fall recorded during the year was on July 21st, when b. 06 inches was registered.
