TRADING WITH ENEMY.

The following important despatch has been received 'by the Premier of Sow South Wales mim the Trade Commissioner to the East respecting the probability of German ‘firing in Japan trying to trade with Australia under Japanese names;— “j have the honour to advise that his Britannic Majesty’s Ambassador, Tokio, has drawn the attention of British subjects in Japan to the tact that trading with the enemy is now strictly prohibited, and that it has been brought to notice that certain German firms in Japan have commenced doing business in Japanese names, the following being the cases so far brought to notice, viz:-y ; (YOKOHAMA. German Firms. Japanese Name. Winckler and Co. 1. Miyahe. Lergmann and Co. -C'gd Shoten. Otto Beimei's and Asada Shokai. Co. Becker and Co. Kato Gomei Kaishp. KOBE. Bergmaun and Co. Sawada and Co. 1 At. ruispe and Co. ivato uuu wo. decker and Co. loyo Bussan Export Co. Carlowitz and Co. 'J.akashiro. Winckler and Co, .Kubota Exporting Co. Van Nierop and Co. Tanaka >.. . u«Kla>. V. tierm.u.-, w,-“"v— y-d Co. mens, Scuuiien. and Co. “It is highly probable that, other German firms, win do likewise, and endeavour to cany on business as usual with Australia and other British possessions. 'The Japanese laws, so rar, ! afford no means oj preventing trading with enemy subjects, but may, latci on, come into lino. As it is highly probable that the German firms above referred to, a,s also others, may endeavour to continue business with Aus_ tialia under the cover of Japanese names, i advise that the strongest measures be adopted hi Australia accordingly, and that the Commonwealth authorities should be approached ou the matter.
