KAPONCA NEWS.

(From Our Special Reporter.) Great improvements to the Manaia Road, near the factory, are being made by the erection of two new houses for Messrs Horn and Bennie. The houses, which are being built by the Heme Builders, are of the latest bungalow design. , The Oddfellows’ Lodge at present is considering the advisability of erecting a miuature rifle range. The matter will be finally decided at the next Lodge meeting to be held on January 10. The local Band will play a selection of music in the main streets to-night. Patriotic airs and music appropriate to New Year season will be played. The members of the Kaponga Mountain Club are holding a “day” at the Dawson Falls House on Sunday, January 9, and have invited His Excellency Lord Liverpool to be present. The Kaponga Brass Band lias also been invited, and will play selections during the day. The power station building is now completed, the poles have been erected anti a large portion of the buildings in the town have been wired. At present the authorites are held up, waiting for insulators. j The Band went carolling on Christmas Eve and collected the creditable sum of £2O for the Band’s general fund.

Many families are spending the holiJdays at the beach at Opunake and the town is very quiet at present. Messrs Horn and McNamara take over the old established, blacksmith and wheelwright business conducted ,by Mr Geo,- Death after the New Year. Mr Horn is well known in Kaponga, having of late been employed by Mr Guy. Mr McNamara is employed in Mr Death’s shop at present.
