(Notes by Cicero.)

The annual meeting of the Stratford Racing Club will open to-mor-row, and promises to eclipse any previous one held by this progressive Club. Since last year a number of improvements have been -effected. The race track in particular ■ lias received a lot of which will be appreciated by both' owners; Add’ thp; general public. The too., have' not been overlooked) jinß thejinpypased prize money |)|y thi^. Cluj) must be the similar institutions, who, with advantage td themselves, might take pattern by .the Stratford Club. Racing will commence’ wjth thf ; Tariki Welter, for : acceptances are; h j' ;-l 1 ,-|' Florist 9 10.. , 4 .. 8 S 9 Veto .9 5 Haupai 8 9 Iceberg 9 5 Golden GrafPateonga 9 5 ton 8 8 Capt. Veto disappointed his party at New Plymouth,' and may do better to-mor-ro'v,; 1 ' but Florist and Pateonga.'i <are sure to make a ( gOod rate!iof the event. 1. Aj, very llarge numb'er mpromisen >to stiirt for' thehßoroilgh!iStakes.J The, nalriek jof the'-horses entered! are;— . i J Boj'oiigh Epworth, Fes too p, Sylviaroa, Golden San, Madame Ristori, Teiiel AtUj Laura, Ronga, Crown Head,,. Akahai; Warhorse, St. Kiel, Roderick, Royal Park, Leah Klesclma.,l Gipsy i (Jem, Arras, Durane, Cbroneta (; Royal Chef, Idolist, Antwerp, Maid o’ Gowrie, Avena, Fair Paul, Flying Queen, Silver Web, Beautiform. , tl (Race, starts at 12.45 p.m.) Maiij o’ Gowrie ran well on Monday last, and pith Fair Paul should make a race, of it with /loyal Chef. The nejet. event, , ( the Stratford Cup, is creating a lot of . interest, ,quite a number of ,the acceptors haying strong admirers.. The following i$ the list of acceptors, with ,weighty:— : !t ;;9 ' ’^^ay'Off ' 7 7 Wel.',Jsngget 9 1 Ratana 7 7 Crawfprd 8 4 Peroneal 7 7 Lady tyn 8 2 Ryl Dragoon Syntax 7 10 Ngapoto 6 10 Ineuru 7 9 Royal Simon 6 10 Patronale 7 9 (Race starts at 1.30 p.m.)

Rewi Poto, who heads the handicap, may choose to meet the acceptors on the Marton course. This is to be regretted, as a meeting between Maniapoto’s son and Welcome Nugget would be well worth witnessing. The latter is very well, as his Mariawatu performances prove, and must be extremely hard to boat. Lady Middleton disappointed her connections at New Plymouth when expected to win, and appears to bo held‘-very safe by Crawford, who put up two fine performances at New Plymouth. The little black fellow ran a ten pound better race on the second day at Taranaki, and allowing for further improvement, should put up a good fight. Ineuru was supported last Saturday by some good judges, but ran her race in patches. The daughter of Kohina may be more generous here.’. iPtdy Off ran a jfair race on Monday;, but appears to |be held safe by the topweights. I I hear on good authority, that the Douglas Handicap will probably be his mission. Ratana put up two good races New Plymouth, and the writer 'gives this gelding a fighting chance. Peroneal, I hear, is an unlikely startler, whilst King Chiara would, in the opinion qf some judges, be better suited by a shorter course. Patronale ! showed running form on Saturday, and has admirers. Royal Dragoon ran a good race for a mile on Monday last, and appears to be returning to form. Ngapoto, who hails from the same stable as Rewi Poto, finished on well last Monday, and being so well [seasoned, should run out this difficult 'ten furlongs better than the majority. SyntaK .was very sore at the Taranaki 1 meeting, but shaped like a true stayer. A' good race may, result in Welcome Nugget, Crawford and Ratana fighting the issue out. The Cup over, punters will be kept busy in sorting out the Hurdle winner, for which the following are the

acceptances:— i Rexer 10 13 Tnrero 0 11 Furocco 10 9Ryl Patron 911 Vladian 10 7 Knocknagow 9 4 ( Epworth 9 13Com ice 9 0 Tangiwai 9 13Joy Bells 9 0 (Race starts at 2.15 p.m.) Vladian, who won so easily at New Plymouth, is decidedly well in, despite his- penalty, hut the Wanganui horse will find in Rexer something better I ’

than anything which opposed him at 'Taranaki. ■ The Midhirst Hack will next claim

(Race starts at 3 p.m.) Sylvan Dale is looking really well, and should he capable of giving Collector and Glacier all they want. The Douglas Handicap, the second “leg” of the double, is next carded, and the field promises to be a really good one, as the following will show : j Crown Pearl 9 2 Simple Sam 7 7 Tree Lucerne 8 13 Zetes 7 7 Avon Park 8 9 Tyson 7 3 Crawford 8 7 Grattan t 2 Play Off 8 3 Coropet 7 1 Tirana 7 12 Zion 6 8 King Chaira 7 9 Epworth 6 7 (Race starts at 8.40 p.m.) Crown Pearl has’not sported silk for over three months, and will possibly ho above himself. Tree Lucerne was galloping splendidly before going to Ellerslie, and the trip may'not have done him any harm, in which case the son of Lupin may be depended on to put up a good fight. Avon Park, in her only start at New Plymouth, showed a remarkable change of form as compared with Woodville. Possibly to-morrow may prove Taranaki running was all wrong. Play Off is greatly fancied by Egmont track watchers, and it must be admitted has been daintily treated by the weight-adjust-er. Of the lighter weights King Chiara and Tirana appear best. Possibly the numbers of Avon Park, Play Off and Tree Lucerne may be conspicuous over the judge’s box after this event.

(Th© Farmers’ Plate acceptance is most disappointing, as the following will-iShow:—

Farmers’ Plate.—Formosus, Cordon, Band of Hope, Mahlstick, Waiohere, /Glen Esk, Hushman, Mystery Lass, Collector. (Race starts at 4.20 p.m.) Collector will only have to saddle up, and he will see a very short price. Indeed, it appears only a matter of what he will pay, though a surprise is always possible. The concluding event, the Railway Hack Handicap, has filled well. The i i 'i •. . .i : i

Martingale ,J 9 ' „ , i( , (ll’ncfj starts at 5.15 p.m.) Despite] his increased weight Bisogric will most probably start a warm favorite and his chances look rosy. There is, however, plenty of good material to puzzle backers in the quest for the next best, and the selection may fall on Veto. ii , . i i ,
