GIRLS’ FRIENDLY SOCIETY.

A very pleasant function took place on Saturday evening at th 6 Parish Hall, Regan Street, in the form of winding-up. the season of the Girls Friendly Society’s gymnastic' class. There was a large attendance. Several musical items were rendered by Misses Rogers and songs by Miss Wilson and Miss Finn. The gh'ls went through their fancy marching, stave and physical drills with precision, and the exhibitions were much appreciated by those present. During the evening the Rev. Howard said that he had a very pleasant duty to preform of making two presentations, and also to give praise to Mrs O. Penn, the president of the Girls’ Frendly Society, for her untiring energy in l keeping the girls interested. He hoped that she would continue as the leader, and he thanked her for her valued services to the Society. Mrs Penn wa s called upon to accept a silver mounted clothes brush as a token of esteem from those who have resigned from the Society. Mrs Penn thanked them for their gift. The Vicar, made reference to Lieutenant Gray’s valuable assistance as physical instructor to the girls, to which work he had given a great deal of time. He said he .was held in high esteem by the Taranaki District, being tactful, and a capable and much respected by the Territorials and Senior Cadets. He hoped that the Lieutenant’s stay in Palmerston would not be of a long period. The Vicar then asked the Lieutenant to accept a handsome 8-day time-piece in recognition of his valuable services to the Girls’ Friendly Society. In reply, Lieutenant Gray thanked the Girls, and said he would treasure . their •, handsome gift. „ ■ , Si*-
