Bishop Averill ami .Mrs Averill returned to Auckland h t v tlic Karima last night. Mr Halliwell, of Hawern, will take the St. Andrew’s Church services at Stratford and Toko on Sunday. Air R. W. Dalton, of Board of Trade, will succeed Air Wickham as British Trade Commissioner. Air George Cave. K.C., M.l\ for Surrey and Justice Peterson, have been knighted, states a London cablegram. The Rev. R. Welsh has resigned his charge of the Oppnake Presbyterian Church and will leave Opunake about next April. Lieutenant Buchler, after spending a week’s furlough in Stratford, loft for Trentham by the mail train this morning. The death is reported from Sydney of Air George Kalian, a well-known bowler, who captained the team that recently visited New Zealand. The Rev. J. W. Butler, of Normanby, leaves this morning for Auckland, eu route to Samoa, he having been accepted for service there. The Hon. Gilbert Carson, AI.L.C., has been re-elected hd member of the Board of Advice of the. Wellington Training College, representing the districts of Wanganui, Taranaki, and Hawke’s Bay. '\ j j-!■,; .
The death occurred oh Thursday at Scatoun, Wellington, of Mr Adam Win. Burnes, who was at one time a prominent athlete, |in Wellington, being a prominent" Sculler, yachtsman, and representative footballer.
Among those who enlisted at Wellington on Thursday was Mr E. S. Douglas, professional for the Miramar Gold Club. He goes into camp with the infantry on December 14. When the committee of the club were informed that Mr Douglas had enlisted, they decided to hold the position until his return, and in the meantime to appoint temporarily someone not eligible for military service.
Lieutenant C. Gray, in charge of No. 30 Area, 1 Defence Department, has received orders to proceed to Palmerston North to report to headquarters on Monthly. Under present instructions. Lieutenant Gray “will be away a fortnight.
