■ Mr L. A. Bone has been re-elected president of the Hawera Chamber of Commerce. Mrs S. B. Hunter and family returned on Tuesday from a tluee weeks’ holiday spent in the North. Mr E. F. Duthie ha s resigned his position as employers’ representative on the Arbitration Court, as from January 31st. ’■ Councillor William Hathaway was re-elected 1 Chairman of the Stratford County Council this morning. Councillors spoke in high terms of Air Hathaway’s work. Mr T. Kururangi ha s been appointed* acting-clerk of the Native Land Court at, present sitting under Judge Jack at Normanby. ’lt is understood (states the Hawera Star) that this sitting will conclude the consolidating of matters connected with the West Coast Settlement Reserves. Mr F. W. Platts, barrister and solicitor, has ; been appointed^to•succeed Mr H. W. Northcroft as Resident Commissioner at the Cook Islands. He will leave for Ha-ratonga at the cn:l of next month. Mr Platts, who is a well-known professional man in Port Chalmers, was Mayor of that boiough from 1909 till 1912. Mr Albert Booth, a member of a family closely identified with the early history of Oamaru and North Otago, is dead, aged 71. Among his sons aie Sergeant-Major and Private R. Bootxs (both of whom are with the Expeditionary Force). Private J. Booth, who was killed at the Dardanelles was another of his sons. Dr. Macky .senior resident surgeon at the Waikato Hospital, who has received an appointment with the Expeditionary Forces, has resigned. Dr. Pinfold, junior house surgeon, bus been appointed to succeed him. and Dr. Currie, a Dunedin University student, has been appointed junior surgeon.
