HIS ’MAJESTY'S THEATRE. “ATTORNEY FOR THE DEFENCE.” ■ - t . f A > soul-stirring : three pvt Lubm drama entitled “The Attorney for the Defence” was . screened at His Majesty’s Theatre for the first time, last night to a good attendance, and was voted a tip-top picture. The, film, which is in three parts, and over '3oooft. in length, is intensely interestdug. and portrays the ambition of the lyoung—the defence of a criminal—- ! winning his case—hack to his crimes—|the Attorney’s reward and united in I love at last. This picture is well supported by a powerful Edison dnpna of |n pathetic inclination, entitled “The iPortrait in the Attic.” Other films included a' very, fine educational production entitled “The Salt Industry.” The “Gaumont Graphic” contains 'many interesting scenes in connection [with the great war. The comic portion of the programme is well catered for v in « “His Sister’s Kiddies,” and '“ r ihe Ageless Sex.” This programme will he screened for the last time tonight.

“MOTHER-GOOSE” PANTOMIME. “Mother Goose,” probably the funniest pantomime ever staged in Ans- ' tralasia is 'to bo presented 'by Mij (George Stephenson at the Town Hall, Stratford,' 'on'Tuesday next;, The ’ Stanley, ' McKay, 'and Co.’s, was formed in ’ Australia 'some eighteen months ago ; and has 'since been appearing with great success in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide 'and Perth. Quite recently it completed a wonderfully successful season of ithree weeks in the Auckland Opera 'House, where the Press was loud in its praise of both performers and pro'ductions. “Mother Goose” will be • well remembered by theatre-goers of a few years back as the pantomime that holds the record for lengthy runs and |popularity in all the large cities of 'Australasia. The present version lias })cen brought right np to date, new 'songs, .now- dances and new specialities having been introduced. For the 'Sew Zealand tour entirely new scenery bas been painted by leading Sydney artists, and tb e many beautiful costumes are by Zeuda, tbe wellknown Sydney costumier. The leading artists have been specially selected are are supported by a full ballet, chorus, and orchestra. Introduced into the pantomime are a number of excellent speciality turns, including dancers, musicians, trick cyclists and i acrobats. Nothing has been loft undone in endeavouring to make the show just the thing the amusement lover wants. The box plan is at Grubb’s, where seats may be reserved without extra charge.
