FARM LABOR WANTED.

[To The Editor Stratford Post.] Sir, —You will agree with me that x very serious situation luces the farmer this season, owing to shortage of tabor, and the matter of harvesting his hay crop is beginning to loom largely in his mind. I have heard expressed by more than one farmer that here the townspeople might step into the breech and help in a time of stress. Surely, sir, something of this nature could be done in a spirit of friendly co-operation and be a very real contribution to the cause of Empire. So far a-, 1 am aware no attempt has yet been made to organise available labor in this district, and I here venture a scheme winch 1 consider could bo worked. Let each factory aud creamery within a workable distance of the town form a centre (largo factories may divide into I two or more centres as fotmd desirable) and the suppliers meet and organise the labor available among themselves, arrange a succession of reaping, transport of workers, etc. During the month of January, which is always a more or less slack time as regards business, all shops and offices in Stratford close two days per week, say Wednesdays and Fridays. In the meantime 1 would suggest that the secretary of the A. and P. Association enrol workers in the town and divide same into suitable gangs to be sent where required. Every farmer who avails himself of the gangs to pay the secretary according to the amount of labor supplied, who will in turn reimburse the employers in the matter of wages. Of course i cannot speak for the whole ol the tradespeople, but i think that a departure of this kind in the present extraordinary circumstances is a fitting tribute to those who have let their helpers go to uphold the freedom of our race. I am, etc., W.s. CATO.
