LOCAL AND GENERAL.
The postponed bowling banner match, Stratford v. West End, will be played on the hitter's green on Thursday, -weather 'permitting. The same teams as selected last week will represent Stratford, and will leave town per motor car at 1 p.m. ■News was received by the local railway authorities on Saturday to the effect that a slip had Occurred at the Whangainomona tunnel. On examination it was found that the damage done was-very flight and the debriswhs cleared away in time to allow the trains to run to schedule time. A solemn Requiem Alass for four members of the local Catholic community who have given their lives for the Empire was celebrated at the Catholic Church at seven o'clock .this morning by the Rev. Father Maples. The mass was chanted by the choir under the Choirmaster (Mr T. A. Lonergan). After the mass, the Dead March from, Saul was played by Miss W Fitzgerald, the congregation standing. The names of the men who have given their lives are :—Colonel Malone, Sergeant-Major Mcfilade, Trooper Cleary, and Private Foley. These are four of the twenty-eight memhers of ; the congregation who have given their ' >;u-vices to the Empire.
