TOUCHED ROCK IN THE FRENCH PASS. ) DAMAGE VERY SLIGHT. Per Press Association. Nelson, November 6. The Mapourika struck on Clay Point, near the French Pass, early this morning during an electrical storm. The wells were sounded, and the boats swung out, and lifebelts were issued in preparation for the worst, but the soundings allayed anxiety, as the steamer was making but little water. After eleven minutes she came off the rocks and proceeded on to Nelson. The Mapourika was inspected on arrival, and some plates in the how wore found to he slightly started, hut the injury was so slight that the vessel was allowed to sail for Wellington, leaving at 10 o’clock. A preliminary inquiry was held before the Collector of Customs, and the evidence will he forwarded to Wellington.
