PERSONAL.

Trooper L. 'Bennett, Kohuratahi, left for Trentham by the mail train this morning. Troopers E. Walsh and V. Bennett, after spending a few days in Stratford on final leave, left for Trentham this morning. Miss McQuay left for Wellington this morning to bid farewell to her brother, Private W. McQuay, who is leaving the Dominion with the next .Reinforcements. Mr Fred. Foley, of Foley’s Pictures, left for Wellington on route for Christchurch by the mail train this morning on a holiday and business trip. Mr Foley will be away about a ween. Mr L. F. B. Smith, of Wanganui, who was sheep-farming in the Whangamomona district, and who recently went to England, has joined Lord Lovat’s Scouts, and is proceeding to the Dardanelles. Mrs A. E. Gorton, Stratford, is in receipt of a telegram from the Prime Minister (Hon. W. F. Massey) stating that Private Thomas Joseph Gorton, the recipient’s brother-in-law, who was wounded at the Dardanelles, has now been discharged as convalescent at Alexandria. Consequent on the retirement of Police-Superintendent Ellison, of Wellington, Inspector Cruickshank is being transferred from Auckland to take charge of the Greymouth police district, and will be succeeded by Sub-Inspector Sheehan, of I imam, who is to be promoted to Tnspectoi. Inspector McPhail, at present stationed at Greymouth, is to take charge of Waikato, Thames, and Rotorua districts, with headquarters at Hamilton, in succession to Inspector Wright, promoted to Superintendent and transferred to Dunedin, vice Superintendent O’Donovan, transferred to Wellington.
