THE RAILWAY SERVICE.
AN UNFOUNDED STATEMENT. Per Frees Association. Wellington, November 6. 1 The Prime Minister referred to-day to the statement that vacancies in the railway service, caused by the departure of men for the front, were being filled by men of military age, often new arrivals in the Dominion. He said that the statement was without foundation. When casual vacancies occurred they were filled by any men available, local workers being on an equality with others, but bli© 1-100 members of the railway service who had gone into the forces had all been told that they would have their positions on their return, and that thou period of service with the forces would count as railway service for the purposes of promotion and superannuation.
