AUCKLAND RACING CLUB. (Notes by Cicero.) The acceptances received by the Auckland Racing Club for their spring fixture, which opens to-morrow,are well up to the standard of former years. One remarkable point about the Ellerslio meeting is the few outside horses engaged. A case in point, the City Handicap, a race worth £IUOO, is composed of ten Auckland, one Taranaki, and due Hawke’s Bay representative. The Guineas, also worth £IOOO, i« made up of ten Auckland and two Hawke’s Bay horses. In the various events, this province will be represented by Ngapoto, Play-Off, Astor, Glenroy, llewi Poto, and Crawford, all of

whom have lighting chances. The programme will open with the Maiden Hurdles, a race worth £2OO, for which thirteen moderates made the acceptance. Takanini and 'Toreador should be well supported. The Auckland Guineas should be fought out by Hydrus, Marco Bello, and' Housewife. Of the thirteen still in the Welcome Stakes, Rekanui (who is reported tc be very fast), Lady Elysian, and In dependence, should be backed in ordej named. A large field will face the startei for the Onehunga Steeplechase. Mas ter Strowan, Waimai, and Appin an \ likely trio. As a great deal depends on the drav for positions and the start effected h a five furlong race, the Shorts Handi «ap must be voted open. However Tact, Glenroy and Sweet Corn ar nicely handicapped. A dozen good handicap horses ac cepted for the City Handicap. Got)' judges say Colonel Soult received con siderable benefit by the Australia .rip, and there is no doubt as to hi being a good horse. Under the cii - umstances a favorite should not b hard to find. Merry Roe is gallopm veil, and she too must carry som money. . No less than twenty-six figure m th Hobson Handicap. Mandoline (Oi •nond’s), and Mossman, are fast, an ■re showing good form on the tracks. The first day’s racing wiH close wit the Flying Handicap. Eighteen horse ire still in the event, which hears very open appearance. Soultaine, Li buna and Crawford should provide •mod contest.
