Miss Garden, representing l)r Barnado's Home, gaye.a lecture at the School this morning. In the course of her lecture, she stated that 1300 old Barnado boys were at the front fighting for the Empire. "There are one and a-half million letters and papers at Cairo waiting to be delivered to the boys on Gallipoti Peninsula and in the hospitals." stated, a soldier in a letter written to a Stratford resident. The writer further stated thafe he and twenty-four other men were detailed off to help in sorting the letters, and the .Military Authorities wen* doing all in iuexi; power to Have the correspondence delivered. The new law providing for the collection of a double stamp duty on cheques and receipts will come into operation on November )■ All receipts for amounts of C2 or more mu:>t bear 2d- stamp duty. Cheque forms with only one penny stamp embossed may be u<vd and tl)c extra duty paid by affixing an adhesive stamp. An important point in this connection is that a postage stamp used lor this purpose must be cancelled by the drawer of the" cheque with his initials and the date.
