IMPERIAL PARLIAMENT.

SiR GEORCE REID’S VIEWS. United Press Association. (Received 11.55 a.m.) London, October 5. Sir George Reid, in an article in tlie Evening News, states: “For many years to come, any attempt to establish an Imperial Parliament worthy of the name will be rejected. This has been my lifelong conviction. The ties now binding the subjects of the KingEmperor cannot radically be changed without infinite care, because the present loose condition of things works well on the whole. An Imperial Parliament is a noble idea, but before accepting it as an ideal, the question of its practicability must be considered. For every white subject of the KingEmperor, there are six coloured subjects. The problem of legislating is one of great complexity, and is practically impossible, as the races are in different stages of evolution, and formal ties do not count half as much as sentimental ones.”
