WHANGAMOMONA.
ORDINATION OF MISSIONARY. (From our own Correspondent.) The ordination of Mr A. H. Nome as Presbyterian Missionary took place in the Wliangamomona Hall on the evening of the 21st rust. The Hull "■as tastefully decorated and there "as a large attendance. The Moderator of the district, Rev. J. Pattison, of Stratford, presided. He was supported on the platform by Rev. J. Lowery, of Eltham, and Mr 1 alley, elder, of Stratford. The proceedings were opened by the singing of the Doxology and a suitable Psalm. The Moderator read the Apostle Paul’s charge to the elders of Ephesus as contained in the twentieth chapter of the Book of Acts, and the Rev. Lowery engaged in prayer. The Moderator gave a narrative of the steps lie had taken to secure a resident missionary for Wliangamomona, and eventually, with the consent of the Home Mission Committee, Mr Norrie was appointed. He having completed hi.s course of studies set for Horae Missionaries, the Presbytery had agreed to ordain him and the visiting delegates were sent as a commission of the Presbytery for this purpose. Mr Norrie having publicly professed his adherence to the fundamental truths held by the Presbyterian Church, the Moderator extended to him the right hand of fellowship and declared him to be a missionary in full standing. Addressing the newly-or-dained missionary, the Moderator gave some brotherly and practical advice regarding the high calling of the ministry, and the necessity of giving attention to study for pulpit preparation, and extending sympathy and help to all. Rev. Lowery then gave an address, in which he emphasised the need of recognising the spirit of God*in our lives, and yielding to His influences. Mr Li I ley, who has always taken a very warm interest in the cause at Wliangamomona, congratulated the congregation on having a missionary settled in the district. At the close of the Ordination Service Messrs Long and Alyward, of Wliangamomona, Mr Pitcarthly, of Pohokura, and Mr Sutherland, , of Kohuratahi, were elected as the leus of a General Committee of Management, and subsequently Mr Long was elected treasurer. The Moderator urged the congregation to support the missionary in his work, and also co-operate in erecting a manse as a residence for him. Light refreshments were then handed round and opportunity was taken to bid farewell and wish God-speed to Mr and Mrs Patton, who are leaving for Hawera. The Missionary and Mr Fawkimr referred to the loss the local niurch and the community had sustained by the transference of Mr Patton from the local Post Office to Hawera, and wished him every success in his new sphere. She meeting throughout was interspersed by the singing of suitable hymns, and during the offertory an anthem was sung by the choir.
