AMUSEMENTS.
HIS MAJESTY’S THEATRE. There was a largo audience at H.M. Theatre last evening, when the current programme, headed by “Gussies Day of Rest” (Keystone comedy, featuring Syd. Chaplin, brother to Charlie Chaplin of picture fame) was screened for the first time. During the whole of tlie programme not a dull moment was spent by the audience, the pictures being of exceptional merit. Tho supporting films were:—“A War Baby,” “Limping to Happiness” (comedy drama), “In the Vale of Sorrow” (dr.ama),. and the “War Gazette.” Tho same programme will be screened again this evening for the last time. To-morrow night tho star film in tho new programme will be “London by Day and Night.”
“FUN ON THE BRISTOL.” TOWN HALL NEXT MONDAY. ‘Vim on the Bristol” a laughing success with the hall-mark of thirty years’ continuous triumph in practically every English-speaking country in the world, will bo presented at the Town Hall on Monday next when George Stephenson’s Company of comedians will stage “Fun on the Britol.” This musical farce was tho big production of the late John F. Sheridan’s stage career. His name was a household word as “The Widow O’Brien.” Frank Hawthorne, who plays the part here, is said to be a worthy successor, and gets all the comedy possible out of the character. The plot deals with tho attempts of the Widow O’Brien and her two daughters to enter society. They have been left a. fabulous fortune and the bogus Counts and other people that flatter them afford the producer unlimited opportunities for introducing the latest songs, dances, sketches, and smart and snappy wit. Tho box plans are open at Grubb’s and judging by the brisk booking, a successful season seems assured. The company has just finished a most successful tour in Wellington.
