United Press Association. (Received 8.15 a.m.) Sydney, September 27. In connection with the North Shore gas strike, the arbitrator has decided that the punishment inflicted on the dismissed man was unjust. A mass meeting of the Amalgamated Miners' Association at Broken Hill, rejected a proposal to hold a referendum, on the question of forty-four hours' work weekly. Tbe meeting noted that the underground ground men finish on Saturday at four o'clock. The Temperance Alliance propose to urge the introduction of legislation giving effect to the resolution of the Assembly in favour of closing hotels at 9 o'clock, and to provide a referendum at the next general elections on the subject of six o'clock closing.
