Welch;, formerly jof Stratford, and now; residing in Wanganui. has received advice from the Defence Ofhce, Melbourne, that his son, William, aged '22, ; was killed i» action at the Dardanelles on 7th August. The "Patriotic Market" being conducted to-morrow in the C.B.A. Buildings by Mesdames Skoglund and Maloiie is a new departure in the way of raising funds for patriotic purposes, which should' commend itself to everybody. A varied assortment of goods will be on sale, -including vegetables', preserves, eggs, flowers, and h'ome'-mnde cakes. Lovers of good cakes will do well to patronise the market. Everything will he sold at a reasonable price, and purchasers will get good value -for their money. There will also he a guessing competition (3d a guess), tlie prize for which will be free admission for three months to the picture theatre, the prize having been kindlr donated by Mr P. Foley.
