A distressing burning accident, wlrtvefry Mrs Pennycook, wife of Gaptain Pennycook. proprietor of the Clutha Leader, losj her life, occurred at Balohuha early this morning. She had heen suffering from inrluenzk and erysipelas, and was' under medical treatment. Early this morning she left her lied and stood hesuie the fire. By sonic means her nightdress caught fire. Her screams awakened a son and daughter, who extinguished the flames, but the shock to the system wa s so severe : that • death' oociirred about mioVdaW Captain Pennycook is on his way to the Dardanelles in charge of the Otago detachment of the Sixth Peini'oiVement". ''' "' ■'"'•' C'liristchurch, September 9, Arthur Charles Nottingham, aged 17 years, while cycling to his borne at Halswell tin's evening, collided with a 1 ramcar and had his skull, jaw, and an arm and a leg fractured. Ho was dead when picked up.
