The Zinc Corporation is seeking to recover £41,920. being the balance due for concentrates delivered before the war, from Aaron, Hirsch. Sohn, Germany. An application for substituted service on F. .H. Ton Hirsch s agent waS granted, the defendants having been notified by means of- a registered letter. The concentrates concerned are now at Port Pirie, and if judgment was obtained they could be taken over.
LABOR FOR THE HARVEST.
(Received 8.50 a.in.) Sydney, September 3. During a discussion at Tamworth by the district council of the Fenners’ and Settlers’ Association, a motion was moved that in view of the reports that more recruits dere offering' than could lie equipped. Air Pearce (Minister of Defence) be asked to allow farmer recruits to return home for the harvest. Air Pankhurst suggested that a number of small farmers in New Zealand, where the harvest is later than in Australia, might be persuaded to come and help. The motion was carried. PREFERENCE TO SOLDIERS. (Received 5.25 a.m.) Melbourne, September 3. In the House the Public Service Hill, giving preference to returned soldiers, passed all stages. MENINGITIS EPIDEMIC. Five deaths and six fresh cases of meningitis are reported. There have been ninety-six deaths to date. Brisbane, September 3. Several cases of meningitis in military camps have been reported.
