Constable Bleasel is now on annual leave and intends to take a holiday trip to Auckland and Te Aroha.
A Stratford schoolboy who accepted a position in the Customs’ Department at Hokitika early in August, in writing to his old master, Mr Tyrer. says: “What strikes me most is tl|e sociability of the people round here. It is wonderful. They are not like the businesslike jostling crowd one meets in Stratford, but all seem to take art interest in the welfare of strangers and welcome them.” Old West Coasters will, no doubt, appreciate these remarks.
Mr Edward Vickers, of Midhirst, yesterday received word that his son. Edward Wright Vickers, aged 21, died from dysentery on August 25. His Excellency tin- Governor wired Mr Vickers under command from His Majesty the King assuring him of the King’s and Queen’s sympathy in the sad loss. The late Edward Vickers, ■who was a member of the- Fifth Reinforcements. was an old hoy of the Stratford High School, where he was very popular and enthusiastic in his scholastic and athletic work. The family* will have the sympathy of a huge circle of friends.

Zealand -jy,itli Mr . and Mrs Gibson and four years ago, and with them has resided on the Monmouth Hoad ever since. Deceased was a native of Carmel, Lancashire, where he was engaged in farming. The funeral will leave the residence at 12.30 p.m. on Saturday for -the Kopuatama Cemetery, passing through Stratford about J. 30,
