A German communique states: — General von Hindenberg is experiencing successful fighting at Birshi, thirty-seven mile's north-eastward of Poniwiez, and General von Scholtz captured Knyszyn, and crossed the Xarew, southward of Tykoein, and General Gallwit/. forced a crossing on the Ni»rew on Sokohy-Bialystok Road, and took four thousand five hundred prisoners. Prince Leopold, eastward of Wierchowieze, took sixteen hundred prisoners. General von Mackensen reached a height on the west bank of the Lesne. northward, of Brest Litovsk. The Austro-Gormans; pierced an advanced position near Dohrynka, south-east of Brest Litovsk. General von Linsingen on the east hank of the Bug, amid heavy fighting is advancing northwards.
