.Mr E. W. Webster (Messrs Webster. Dobson and Co.), this morning received word that Ids brother, Dawson. Webster, who went with the Fifth Reinforcements. has been wounded in action. Our boys seem to be bearing* their full share of the brunt of the fighting.
Mrs ,1. Richards, who is leaving Stratford for Pukekohe. was last evening presented with a hymn book by the members of tbe choir of the Wesley Church. Choirmaster Lawn, who made the presentation, spoke of the good work Mrs Richards had done for the Church since she arrived in Stratford some years ago. She had been an ardent member of the choir and a teacher at the Sunday school. Other members of the choir also eulogised the work done by their late colleague. In the afternoon Mrs Richards was presented with a handsome bible from the teachers and scholars.
Mr W. P. Kirkwood, chairman of the Stratford Patriotic Committee, speaking at the meeting in the Town Hall on Saturday afternoon, paid a personal tribute to the late Colonel Malone. “He was a man we can ill afford to lose.” said,Mr Kirkwood, “he was one among a number that this district lias lost in this terrible war. He was a man in a thousand—a fine settler, a fine soldier, and a man of evry high attainments indeed. While paying this tribute to Colonei Malone I would like to also add mv tribute to all the other brave fellow* who have, fallen at the front in tile? cause of this just war. which we are waging against the German* Empire,”
