Rarawa, from North, Friday. The Rarawa arrived from Onehunga yesterday morning with 124 ton s of ■ general cargo, including 26 tons ot ■ cement and 14 tons of sugar. She sailed on the return trip in the evening. The Mapourika leaves Wellington on Tliprsday for New Plymouth, returning to Wellington on Friday. Auckland, August 17. Tlie steamer Otaki, which arrived from London to-day, received the Benalla’s s.o.s. call, and stood by until she avus informed that further assist- 1 ance was not needed. Tavo days later the Otaki encountered a hurricane, lasting for 36 hours. Huge waves Avashed the decks every minute, and about tAA’o hundred packages of cargo that Avere stoAved on deck were washed overboard.' The vraves Avere washing into the carpenter’s shop, and flooded nearly all the officers’ rooms, and damaged the main deck fixtures, such as rails, ladders, etc. The lost cargo Avas mainly calcium of carbide and varnish consigned to Bluff.
